MEAD THEATRE LAB

Mead Theatre Lab

In the Mead Theatre Lab, audiences experience innovative new work and interact with an exciting mix of contemporary performers. It is a venue for talented playwrights, producers, directors, designers and actors to present pieces that explore new and challenging ideas. The intimate, flexible space has presented readings, workshops, small theatrical productions, dance, movement and performance pieces and other experimental forms. Through the Mead Theatre Lab, CuDC works to nurture emerging performing artists and organizations and expand the visibility of established performers and theater companies.

Mead Theatre Lab Program
CuDC's Mead Theatre Lab Program is an intensive program for performing artists and independent theatre companies. Over the course of the season the program provides fifteen weeks of theatre space, production management support and mentoring. An advisory panel of noted DC theatre professionals selects the projects and provides guidance to the chosen producers, creating a nurturing environment in which emerging performing artists can grow — and resulting in an eclectic group of innovative, edgy productions. Past Mead Theatre Lab Program participants include Anu Yadav, BosmaDance, Q. Terah Jackson, Solas Nua, Taffety Punk Theatre Company and Washington Improv Theater.

During the 2009 – 2010 season, CuDC sponsored three productions in the Mead Theatre Lab.
